Reality Check - Are you a Console Fanboy?

I am not a fanboy. I am loyal to myself. My primary console choices (I have owned more than one console in a few generations) has been chosen for very pragmatic reasons. If I could afford to own every console, I would. Each offers its own unique opportunities for entertainment.

A brief history of my console buying habits.

Atari 7200. What else was there? I was 7. I didn't know about anything else, and I was too poor to own a computer in the 80s. (i know the 7200 is considered 3rd gen but I feel it belongs in second gen)

8 bit (AKA 3rd Gen)= NES. Mario brothers. What else is there to say?

16 bit (AKA 4th Gen) = SNES. Still Mario. But also, I discovered Final Fantasy (I was too young to appreciate FF on the NES). Got a Genesis many years later at a garage sale super cheap.

32/64bit (AKA 5th Gen) PSone. Final Fantasy 7 was all that mattered. Also, this marked the beginning of the end for Nintendo 3rd party support. No doubt Ocarina of Time was a great game but I only ever played it at McDonald's or a friends house.

6th Gen: Stayed with Sony. The PS2 had FFX, obviously. Benefitted from my roomie having an orginal xbox. Fable, Knights of the old Republic and to a lesser extent Halo made it an attractive console. but I did not need my own.

7th gen. My roomie got the 360. I loved Gears. I got married and moved out. What console should I get? my reasoning: 1) FF XIII was NOT exclusive to Playstation. 2) I loved Gears 3) I had made many freinds online for xbox live. So what did I buy? A NINTENDO WII! To be fair, this was bought as a family console so I could play games with my wife. I did eventually get a 360 and I it was the primary console I played. In fact, it was for my wife as well, which came as a surprise to both of us. For someone who never owned a console before the Wii, she has a higher gamerscore than I do!

Next Gen. I don't know what to do. many of the arguments that got me a 360 still apply. My friends on xbox live, Final Fantasy not being exclusive to sony (even though I was very disappointed by XIII, Final Fantasy still plays a significant role) . one of my Wife's favourite game series, Dead Rising, is now exclusive to xbox for some uknown reason. But i hate Kinect, I hate the price, and even if they retracted it, I still feel insulted by their used game, region locking and other controversial policies. Its like they called me an idiot, and then thought I'd forget about it when they handed me a hastily given, poorly wrapped regifted present. Thanks, but I remember what you said and how it made me feel.

So, not a fanyboy. But very torn. Inevitably, I have to get a XboxOne, which is depressing.
